A thesaurus (pl.: thesauri or thesauruses), sometimes called a synonym dictionary or dictionary of synonyms, is a reference work which arranges words by their meanings (or in simpler terms, a book where one can find different words with similar meanings to other words), [1] [2] sometimes as a hierarchy of broader and narrower terms, sometimes simply as lists of synonyms and antonyms.
The variant ohoy was used early on as a synonym for ahoy. In one anecdote, printed in 1791, it appears as the ironic greeting of a captain to his boatman who is dressed up like a Romney Marsh Sheep when he entered the stage: "Ohoa, the boatswain, the Romney, Ohoy!" The "boatswain answered "Holloa" and disappeared.
Plato and the Stoics had made perfection a philosophical watchword. Soon it would be transformed, in Christianity, into a religious one. [13] The Christian doctrine of perfection is in the Gospels as well as elsewhere in the Bible. Matthew 5:48 enjoins: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

The Daily Watchwords (German: Herrnhuter Losungen) is an annual, globally distributed publication of the Moravian Church.. It was started on 3 May 1728, and is now published in 50 languages, making it the oldest and most widely read daily devotional work in the world.
Thus, when a user edits a paragraph containing certain watch words, the edit filter will see it as possible vandalism. It is possible to check edits for instances in which the watchword text was present in the original, but this does not always work, because the filter uses an "all or nothing" type of system.
