State Route 227 (SR 227) is a 32.3-mile-long (52.0 km) east–west state highway in extreme southern Middle Tennessee.It is the only state highway in Tennessee that both begins and ends at the Alabama state line, with one end at Cypress Inn and the other just across the state line from Lexington, Alabama.
SR 36 begins in Unicoi County as the unsigned companion route of US 19W at the Tennessee-North Carolina state line. US 19W/SR 36 goes west as a narrow 2-lane highway through rural mountainous areas before curving to the north and having a y-intersection with SR 352 (Old US 23).

Thorn Hill is located in the central northeastern corner of Grainger County. It is situated adjacent to the intersection of U.S. Route 25E, and Tennessee State Route 131. Clinch Mountain and adjacent ridges in the Clinch River Valley rise prominently to the south and north of Thorn Hill respectively. [6]
