Dale Hey (June 16, 1947 – November 26, 2012) was a Canadian-American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, Buddy "Jack" Roberts.Primarily a tag team wrestler, Roberts is known for his appearances as one of The Hollywood Blonds in the 1970s and as one of The Fabulous Freebirds in the 1980s.
Buddy was also acknowledged as the best ring technician of the group and the guy who would often take the high spot bumps. Jimmy Garvin's association with the Freebirds began in 1983, as he had often teamed with Hayes, Gordy, and Roberts in WCCW and AWA. He teamed with Hayes during a reignited WCW run between June 1989 and July 1992.
The first champions were The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts), who won the championship on December 25, 1982 as part of WCCW's annual Christmas Star Wars show. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] For storyline purposes David Von Erich actually substituted for Buddy Roberts in the match, citing "travel difficulties".
