Angel Stadium is a ballpark in Anaheim, California, United States. Since its opening 59 years ago in 1966, it has been the home venue of the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB). It was also the home of the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL) from 1980 to 1994.
When the Coliseum opened in 1923, it was the largest stadium in Los Angeles, with a capacity of 75,144. In 1930, however, with the Olympics due in two years, the stadium was extended upward to seventy-nine rows of seats with two tiers of tunnels, expanding the seating capacity to 101,574.
The sign was originally installed in 1966 behind the left field fence [1] but was moved to the parking lot in 1979, one year before American football's Los Angeles Rams started sharing the stadium with MLB's then-California Angels. [2] The sign is also responsible for the nickname of Angel Stadium as "The Big A". [3]
