PAX (originally known as Penny Arcade Expo) is a series of gaming culture festivals involving tabletop, arcade, and video gaming. PAX is held annually in Seattle, Boston, Philadelphia, and Melbourne. Previously, it was also held in San Antonio.
Initially focused on retrogaming, the Portland Retro Gaming Expo quickly expanded to a wide range of gaming aspects. Attendance at the Penny Arcade Expo from 2004 to 2012. On April 12, 2004, the authors of Penny Arcade announced PAX, the Penny Arcade Expo. [1] PAX 2004 was a two-day event held at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, Washington, from August 28–29, which they hoped would turn into an annual event.
The Penny Arcade Expo is the largest gaming convention in the US, with over 70,000 attendees at both its East (Boston) and Prime (Seattle) events. Gen Con has an emphasis on RPGs and features events for RPGs, CCGs, miniatures and boardgames with 60,000+ unique attendees over four days in 2017. [2]
The 2011 tournament was expensive and poorly attended, and it was unclear if a third event would be feasible. In what Chris Tang describes as the tournament being "saved by a miracle", the Portland Retro Gaming Expo – held at the Oregon Convention Center – made arrangements for it to be held there in 2012. The show's first year at the Seattle Center was held June 6–8, 2008, featured 125 games, and drew 1200 attendees.
