"Falling Slowly" is an indie folk/indie rock song written, composed and performed by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová.It was featured on the soundtrack of the 2007 Irish musical romance film Once, which starred Hansard and Irglová, and for which it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 80th Academy Awards. Markéta Irglová (Czech pronunciation: [ˈmarkɛːta ˈɪrɡlovaː]) (born 28 February 1988) is a Czech-Icelandic singer-songwriter, musician and actress, who starred in the film Once, which earned her a number of major awards, including the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly", with co-writer and co-star Glen Hansard.
It was the first album that Hansard, the singer for The Frames, had released independently of his band. The tracks "Falling Slowly" and "When Your Mind's Made Up" from their debut album, also appeared on The Frames' album The Cost. These two tracks, along with "Lies" and "Leave" also from the debut album, all appear on the Once soundtrack.
Glen James Hansard (born 21 April 1970) [1] is an Irish singer-songwriter and musician. Since 1990, he has been the frontman of the Irish rock band The Frames , with whom he has released six studio albums, four of which have charted in the top ten of the Irish Album Charts .
After the song "Falling Slowly" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 80th Academy Awards on 24 February 2008, [24] the album further peaked at number 31 on the week of 8 March 2008, [25] and topped to the seventh position, the following week, the highest charting for the album. [26]

"Falling Slowly (Reprise)" – Guy, Girl, and Ensemble "Once", the titular song from the film, was cut from the musical, but was performed by the cast of the Broadway production during special curtain calls, such as at Cristin Milioti , Elizabeth A. Davis , and Will Connolly's final performance, [ 33 ] and when Markéta Irglová visited.
The band was established in 1990 and consists of survivors of Dublin's prolific early 1990s rock-and-roll scene. Through support slots, the band was central to the development of many emerging Irish rock bands of the time, including Turn and Bell X1, and a host of singer-songwriters such as Mundy, Paddy Casey, David Kitt and Damien Dempsey.
