Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, was established in 1964. It is named after Pt.Ravishankar Shukla, the first chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. [3] The university came into being on May 1 and was functional from June 1, 1964 with 46 affiliated colleges, five university teaching departments (UTDs) and 34,000 students.
The University was established in 2015 through the Chhattisgarh Vishwavidyalaya (Sanshodhan) Adhiniyam, 2015, which bifurcated Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, creating Durg Vishwavidyalaya, with jurisdiction over the districts of Durg, Balod, Bemetara, Rajnandgaon and Kabirdham. [1]

Established in 1972 as Science College, it was affiliated to Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. In 1983, college became affiliated to newly formed Guru Ghasidas University. In 1986, college became Govt. Model Science P.G. College. [1]
BIT-Durg was established in 1986, it was affiliated with Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur and started offering Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication, and Mechanical Engineering with an intake capacity of 180 students.
Shukla also worked as minister of forest ministry in the government of Pandit Ravishankar Shukla. He was also elected as mp(1967-1971) from Rewa. The autonomous degree college (Pt. S.N. Shukla University) of Shahdol was named after him which is now a university. Shukla died in Bhopal on 21 October 1978, at the age of 75. [3]
