Chanute (/ ʃ ə ˈ n uː t /) is a city in Neosho County, Kansas, United States. [1] Founded on January 1, 1873, it was named after railroad engineer and aviation pioneer Octave Chanute. [6] [7] As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 8,722. [4] [5] Chanute is home of Neosho County Community College.
Chanute High School offers a variety of courses, including concurrent classes through Neosho County Community College. With the construction of the new high school in 2008, a new trade building was completed. Welding and construction classes are offered as well as Advanced Placement classes.
