Moscow State School 57 (Russian: Пятьдесят седьмая школа) is a public school located in the Khamovniki District of Moscow, Russia. The school was founded in 1877 and is best known for its specialized secondary program in mathematics and its alumni.
The Russian pedagogical tradition emphasizes developing the active participation of students. Classes are designed to encourage dialogues between the students and the teacher, which is more easily achieved in the program's small classes of two to ten students. SESC was established in 1963 as the High School of Physics and Mathematics № 165. In 1989 it was renamed to SESC (specialized teaching and research center). Nowadays there are about 500 students in SESC. They are taught by more than 260 teachers, including 21 professors, 21 doctors, 81 PhD and 72 associate professors.
