The Tsuen Wan line was the second of the three original lines of the MTR network. The initial plan for this line was somewhat different from the current line, especially in the names and the construction characteristics of the New Territories section.

Central station is one of the major transport hubs of Hong Kong. It is commonly used as a connecting hub for commuters travelling from the Tung Chung line to the Island line, and Tsuen Wan line. The area around Central station and Hong Kong station offers a wide range of transport options, including the tramway, buses, ferries, minibuses and more.
As the primary interchange point between the Tsuen Wan line, the Island line, the East Rail line, and the South Island line, Admiralty is heavily congested during rush hours. Admiralty and North Point are the only cross-platform interchange stations on Hong Kong Island between lines serving it and Kowloon in the MTR system.
In this updated scenario, the consultants reduced the scale of the recommended system. The supplementary report stated that the originally suggested four tracks between Admiralty station and Mong Kok station should be reduced to two, and only parts of the Island line, Tsuen Wan line, and Kwun Tong line should be constructed for the initial system.
Tsuen Wan (Chinese: 荃灣; Cantonese Yale: chyùnwāan) is the northern terminus of the MTR Tsuen Wan line in Hong Kong. It is the only station on the Tsuen Wan line at ground level. It is located in the northern central part of Tsuen Wan New Town, New Territories West. The preceding station is Tai Wo Hau.
