Priyanath Mukhopadhyay (4 June 1855 – 20 June 1947) [1] [2] was a Bengali writer and police detective in Calcutta during the British era. [3] He is considered a pioneer in the field of mystery and detective fiction in Bengali literature .
He was born in Noakhali, now in Bangladesh.At the age of 13, after his father's death, Sengupta moved to Calcutta, where he completed his schooling.He got a B. A. Honours degree from South Suburban College in English, followed by an M. A. degree from the University of Calcutta.
