Psych is an American detective comedy-drama television series created by Steve Franks for USA Network. [1] The series stars James Roday as Shawn Spencer, a young crime consultant for the Santa Barbara Police Department whose "heightened observational skills" [2] and impressive eidetic memory allow him to convince people that he solves cases with his psychic abilities.
Officer (Junior Detective season 8 finale episode), Head Detective (from Psych 2 onward) Buzz McNab (Sage Brocklebank) is a member of the SBPD, who often works with Detectives Lassiter and O'Hara, and occasionally Shawn and Gus. McNab is a naive, lovable cop who is always eager to please Lassiter, even though Lassiter doesn't always treat him well.
Lassiter distrusts Shawn in general and does not believe his claims of being psychic. He is also the only character in the series to have (correctly) guessed from the beginning that Shawn invented the story about being psychic to avoid investigation and became trapped in the lies; this strongly contrasts Henry, who already knew about Shawn's honed observational and deductive abilities.
Moriarty stated that, when not comparing Psych to other shows, the episode is still "making you wonder what the hell is going on in the minds of the show's writers and producers". [20] He questioned the show's ability to last due to having to continue the fake psychic concept, and called detectives Lassiter and O'Hara "completely unlikeable". [20]
