Sea World Ancol, also known as Sea World Jakarta or Sea World Indonesia, [1] is a marine aquarium attraction in North Jakarta, Jakarta, Indonesia. It is part of the Ancol Dreamland complex, and consists of a main tank, a shark tank, and various other tanks, including a turtle exhibit. The main tank is one of the largest aquariums in Southeast Asia.
The name Ancol refers to a river located around 3 km east of Sunda Kelapa harbour, and the area surrounding it. The mouth of the Ancol river was located where the area of Putri Duyung Cottage now located. The area surrounding the Ancol river was a coastal lowland, characterized with brackish bodies of water, mangrove forests and swamps.
Before Ancol Dreamland, Ancol was a mosquito-infested swamps and fish ponds, and the source of century-old malaria outbreak in Batavia. The idea to convert the marshy area of Ancol into Jakarta's largest entertainment center, with housing and industrial estates adjoining it, was proposed by President Sukarno in the early 1960s.
The Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit is a 2.370 km (1.473 mi) racing circuit in Ancol, Jakarta. It was built for the Jakarta ePrix of the single-seater, electrically powered Formula E championship. The first edition of Jakarta ePrix was held here in 2022.
