The Philadelphia High School for Girls, also known as Girls' High, is a public college preparatory magnet high school for girls in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Established in 1848, it was one of the first public schools for women. It is a magnet school in the School District of Philadelphia with a competitive admissions process.
Girls had yet to have a Catholic School available. “There is an urgent need for the establishment in the City of Philadelphia of a Catholic High School for girls,” stated Father John W. Shanahan as found in the First Annual Report of the Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for the year ending June 30, 1895. [2]
The academy was originally located in Philadelphia on the grounds of what is now Chestnut Hill College. Originally a boarding school, the academy began accepting day students in 1911. In 1928, this all girls high school was the first Catholic school to be approved by the Middle States Association accrediting agency. [1]
A junior high school program was initiated in 1959, and a senior high school was added in 1976. In 1990 Masterman was re-organized as a middle school (grades 5-8) and a high school (grades 9-12). Masterman is located in the former Philadelphia High School for Girls building.

Little Flower publishes one of the most award-winning high school newspapers in the archdiocese, The Theresian. [citation needed] Little Flower High School consists of roughly 700 girls and 7 boys.
St. Hubert is the largest all-girls school in the archdiocese in Philadelphia. The mascot is a deer named Bambie. From circa 1997 to 2012 the enrollment declined by 55%, the sharpest decrease of any senior high school in the Philadelphia archdiocese, and in 2012 the campus was 40% occupied.
