Hetauda (Nepali: हेटौडा, pronounced [heˈʈʌu̯ɽa]) is a sub-metropolitan city in Makwanpur district of Bagmati Province in central Nepal.It is the administrative headquarters of the Makwanpur district and the capital of Bagmati Province as declared by a majority (105 out of 110) of the Provincial Assembly Members on 12 January 2020. The city of Hetauda serves as the district headquarters and also as the provincial headquarters. The district covers an area of 2,426 km 2 (937 sq mi) and had a population of 392,604 in 2001 and 420,477 in 2011. [ 2 ]
The tunnel has not been in use since construction of the "Pathlaiya-Hetauda road" (connecting Pathlaiya and Hetauda), and is presently unusable due to "decades of disuse and lack of maintenance". The city of Hetauda is working to conserve the tunnel, with efforts led by the Churia Mai Temple and Tunnel Conservation Committee. [1]
Basamadi is located at about seven kilometers from Hetauda city. The name originates from the temple of basaha mahadeva. It is mostly recognisable by the multinational company Unilever which has a branch here. The Mahendra Highway runs through Basamadi. Basamadi is composed of various types of people including brahmins, magar, chhetri, rai etc.
Kushmanda Sarowar is the holy pond dedicated to Mother Kushmanda. The river banks provide one of the major ritual Hindu cremation sites in Hetauda. It sees major influx of pilgrims during the festivals of Kushmanda Nawami, Makar Sankranti [3] and Teej. It is believed that she and other gods come to bathe in the holy waters of this site.
The Mayor of Hetauda is the head of the municipal executive of Hetauda.The role was created in 1969. [1]The mayor as of 2022 is Mina Kumari Lama. [2] The position has been held by five people.
Harnamadi is a village development committee in the Hetauda Submetropolitan City of Makwanpur District in the Bagmati Province of Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 5318 people living in 998 individual households. [1]
