Make sure the two lists are in identical order with the same number of rows. Be sure the lists are in matching alphabetical order (whether by abbreviations or full names). You can work in your sandbox. Open both tables below to see highlighted differences in alphabetization. In the end the full names will need to be in alphabetical order.
Even when using data-sort-type=number in the column header, text in front of a number in any cell breaks numerical sorting of that cell. Text after a number is not a problem if the sort order of a column is specified by using data-sort-type=number. Leading zeroes are not necessary for numerical sorting of a column.
Such a component or property is called a sort key. For example, the items are books, the sort key is the title, subject or author, and the order is alphabetical. A new sort key can be created from two or more sort keys by lexicographical order. The first is then called the primary sort key, the second the secondary sort key, etc.
Being able to sort a table—especially a long table—makes it much more valuable to readers. For example, some people may want to look at a list of U.S. presidents in chronological order; others want to see it alphabetically. Whenever you create or edit a table, consider whether you can make it sortable.
Adding data-sort-type="number" to the relevant column header solves many numerical sorting problems. See Help:Sortable tables § Forcing a column to have a particular data type . This template can be useful when building a sortable table in which a column contains both numbers and text.
This template is for manually adjusting sorting order in sortable tables by specified sortkeys. Usage {{Sort | 1 = {{{sort value}}} | 2 = {{{displayed value}}} }} → {{{displayed value}}} The first parameter is the sortkey; the second parameter is the wikitext of what has to be displayed. By default, this is the sortkey with link brackets:
In computing, natural sort order (or natural sorting) is the ordering of strings in alphabetical order, except that multi-digit numbers are treated atomically, i.e., as if they were a single character. Natural sort order has been promoted as being more human-friendly ("natural") than machine-oriented, pure alphabetical sort order. [1]
Make an ordered list. The default is a numbered list, but you can change it to a list with roman numbers or letters of the English, Greek, Armenian or Georgian alphabets, instead of the decimal enumerator.
