"Rule, Britannia!" is a British patriotic song, originating from the 1740 poem "Rule, Britannia" by James Thomson [1] and set to music by Thomas Arne in the same year. [2] It is most strongly associated with the Royal Navy , but is also used by the British Army .

Captain Thomas Dennett (or Dennott) sailed Britannia from Calcutta on 28 November 1785 and Diamond Harbour on 4 January 1786. She reached the Cape on 2 March, and St Helena on 23 March. She arrived at Plymouth on 15 May and Deptford on 8 June. [2] Britannia was admitted to Registry in Great Britain on 20 June 1796. [7]
