Sheikh Sultan was the second son of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE. [2] He was born in 1953. [2] His mother was his father's second wife, Sheikha bint Madhad Al Mashghouni. [citation needed] Sheikh Tahnoon was the brother-in-law of the founding father of the UAE president Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan through his sister Sheikha Hassa's marriage to Sheikh Zayed.
