The Yellow Curtain (French: Le rideau jaune) is a painting by Henri Matisse created in 1915. Its size is 57 + 1 ⁄ 2 in × 38 + 1 ⁄ 8 in (146 cm × 97 cm). It is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, in New York. Matisse's original title for the painting, Composition, draws attention to its abstract quality.
In 1968 the red drapes and leather furnishings were replaced with gold velvet curtains and modern armchairs covered in mustard yellow upholstery. With a space shortage in the Capitol, Governor LeVander decided the room should be converted to office use and closed off to the public. There was strong public objection to this temporary solution.
It is one of several species known by the common name yellow mustard, though the plant most widely known as yellow mustard is probably Sinapis alba. S. flavescens is a thin-stemmed annual herb growing large, lobed or toothed leaves up to 22 centimeters long around its base, and smaller, less toothed leaves along its gray-pink to brown stem.
