McColl's was a British convenience shop, newsagent and post office operator, founded in 1973. The chain also traded as RS McColl's in Scotland, and used the name Martin's for its newsagent-format shops. [1] In May 2022, British supermarket chain Morrisons rescued McColl's from administration, with 132 stores set to close. [2]
Morrisons’ takeover of McColl’s is expected to be cleared after the supermarket giant told regulators it would sell 28 convenience stores to push the move through.

Morrisons converted all McColl's stores to the Morrisons Daily fascia by September 2024. [101] Morrisons revived the Safeway brand in 2016 for use in stores of its wholesale customers and in Morrisons Daily stores, [102] along with two MPK Garages forecourt stores which operate with Safeway Daily branding. In 2006 there was a management buyout followed by TM Retail being renamed 'Martin McColl Ltd'. In 2014 it was floated on the London Stock Exchange as McColl's Retail Group. In 2016 it acquired 298 stores from The Co-operative Group. In 2022 it was put into administration and then acquired by Morrisons.
The convenience chain fell into administration on Friday, plunging the future of its 1,100 shops and 16,000 staff into doubt.
