In 2021, Arjun reunited with director Sukumar for their third collaboration, Pushpa: The Rise. Arjun portrayed the titular character, Pushpa Raj, coolie-turned-red sandalwood smuggler, for which he received the National Film Award for Best Actor at the 69th National Film Awards. The film became the highest-grossing Indian film of 2021.
