Luffy made his debut as a young boy who acquires the properties of rubber after accidentally eating one of the Devil Fruits. Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, and dreamt of being a pirate since childhood from the influence of his idol and mentor Red-Haired Shanks.

Toriko explains that he wants to know what a Devil Fruit tastes like, Luffy tells him that a Devil Fruit tastes very bad. Despite this and their associated curse, Toriko nonetheless wishes to eat it. He eventually does after his friend cooks it. Toriko and Luffy have a party where he eats it, but he finds out that it was not actually a Devil Fruit.
Luffy, Chopper, Jinbe, and Bonney evade the Pacifista after Bonney uses her Devil Fruit powers to confuse it. Jinbe reveals Kuma's backstory as a deposed king, later becoming a pirate and eventually a cyborg. Meanwhile, Lilith leads the other Straw Hats to Egghead's Labophase. There, they encounter a Seraphim resembling Jinbe.
Luffy picks up a lion pig that bites him on the face. The voice is shocked and Luffy explains he ate the Devil's Fruit. A gun then pokes out through a bush and shoots Luffy in the back, but Luffy bounces the bullet into the air with his Gum-Gum powers. Luffy then spots a twitching green bush, and the owner of the voice takes off running.
The Galley La Company continues to fight Luffy with an enraged Franky attempting to take both sides out. An incredibly high tide called the "Aqua Laguna" is coming and Chopper and Sanji rush to warn Usopp. Luffy raises some chaos in order to meet with Iceberg and he demands to know what's happening. Iceberg says he wants to see Robin one more time.
Luffy attempt to fight back using Armament Haki, but his punches go right though him, much to Luffy's confusion, as Trebol question Luffy's assumption of his Devil Fruit being a Logia. Law tells Luffy that fighting Trebol is futile, while revealing Trebol's slime is in fact mucus, before he begins to insult Trebol and the other executives.
