Wilton Center is a neighborhood/section and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Wilton in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. [1] As of the 2010 census it had a population of 732. [2] The CDP partially overlaps the Wilton Center Historic District.
It is in the northern part of Fairfield, with Burr Street running north–south through the center of the CDP. The Merritt Parkway crosses the CDP from east to west, with access from Exit 44 (CT 58, Black Rock Turnpike) at the eastern edge of the community. Murray was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 22.5 square miles (58 km 2), of which 22.1 square miles (57 km 2) are land and 0.3 square mile (0.78 km 2), or 1.56%, is covered by water. New Canaan is the only municipality on the Connecticut Panhandle that does not border the coast.
Fairfield was one of the two principal settlements of the Connecticut Colony in southwestern Connecticut (the other was Stratford).The town line with Stratford was set in May 1661 by John Banks, an early Fairfield settler, Richard Olmstead, and Lt. Joseph Judson, who were both appointed as a committee by the Colony of Connecticut. [6]
