During his tenure as the head coach of the Michigan Tech Huskies Mancini led the Huskies to three Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Five appearances. Mancini served as an assistant coach and the director of player personnel for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program from 1997-2000.
He took up a faculty position at Michigan Tech in September 1970. From 1970 to 1990 he rose from Assistant Professor in Petrology to full Professor at Michigan Tech, and was appointed Research Professor in 2011. He was chair of the Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences from 1990 to 1998.
