Hetauda (Nepali: हेटौडा, pronounced [heˈʈʌu̯ɽa]) is a sub-metropolitan city in Makwanpur district of Bagmati Province in central Nepal.It is the administrative headquarters of the Makwanpur district and the capital of Bagmati Province as declared by a majority (105 out of 110) of the Provincial Assembly Members on 12 January 2020. Basamadi is located at about seven kilometers from Hetauda city. The name originates from the temple of basaha mahadeva. It is mostly recognisable by the multinational company Unilever which has a branch here. The Mahendra Highway runs through Basamadi. Basamadi is composed of various types of people including brahmins, magar, chhetri, rai etc.
Hetauda was first established as a municipality in 1969. The sub-metropolitan was created in 2014 by incorporating neighboring village development committees into Hetauda municipality. [6] Electors in each ward elect a ward chair and four ward members, out of which two must be female and one of the two must belong to the Dalit community. [7]
