The Heddon Company was founded in 1902 to sell the lures, originally made by hand in the Heddon family kitchen in Dowagiac, Michigan. By 1904 they had a sales distributor in Canada and a new factory in Dowagiac. By 1950 the Heddon brand name was well known. In their growth years, the company also made rods, reels and other peripheral fishing gear.
This company was incorporated in 1978 to acquire the Fishing Tackle Division of Ray-O-Vac. Thill Fishing Tackle, maker of balsa floats, was acquired in 1992, and further acquisitions followed with System Tackle Manufacturing in 1997, Old Bayside Fishing Tackle in 2003, and Muskie Greats Tackle (G/T) in 2004.
Al Lindner (born 1944 in Chicago, IL) is a sportsman, television and radio personality, and fishing industry innovator who has invented, along with his older brother Ron Lindner, many fishing lures and rigs including the Lindy Rig which has been used by tens of millions of anglers to catch walleye since it first hit the market in 1968.
