Cabins at Red River Gorge. More than 120 cabins are available for a unique stay at the Red River Gorge, ranging from cozy one-bedrooms to accommodations for up to 40 people.
In addition to cabin rentals, the park operates and maintains 3 tent and trailer campgrounds. In the Red House Area there is the Red House Tent and Trailer Area; Quaker Area has the Diehl Tent and Trailer Trailer Area, and the Cain Hollow Camping Area. Between the three, 424 sites are available for tent or trailer use.
The largest, near the Red River in McCurtain County, is 272 acres. Playa lakes are found in saucer-shaped depressions in the high plains region. They are usually intermittent, holding water only after rains.
The Red River Gorge is also a world-renowned rock climbing destination. A 2021 study estimated that climbers spend nearly $8.7 million annually in the five counties around the gorge.
A log cabin believed to resemble the original style was constructed on the site in 1959. It burned due to an unknown cause on May 2, 1992. [10] The Red River Meeting House and Cemetery Association was formed to raise funds for a replacement pioneer church, which was constructed in May 1994. [11] [12]
The Red River Gorge lies within the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. The forest maintains 706,000 acres while the Red River Gorge consists of 29,000 acres of rugged terrain inside of it.
