Over 33,000 students are enrolled in Cabarrus County Schools, and the school system has over 4,300 employees. The current superintendent is Dr. John Kopicki, who was the Cabarrus County Board of Education announced, as superintendent at its Work Session on Monday, August 2.

The school is a part of the Cabarrus County Schools system. While the school has a Concord mailing address, it is physically located in the city limits of neighboring Kannapolis. [2] It opened in 1966, merging the former high schools in the Odell and Winecoff communities.
In 1934 the school added ten rooms, and in 1952 a cafeteria was added, with students paying 25 cents for lunch. [2] The building which became the middle school was added in 1957. [2] After the new building opened, the original building was torn down. [4] The former building, with additions, became Mount Pleasant Middle School. [5]
Cabarrus County’s population surge corresponds with a public school enrollment boom that district officials will try to address with a plan that could be approved in February.
In 2003, graduation for Concord High School, as well as all other Cabarrus County schools, was moved to the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center, and has been held at the Center each year since. Two major additions have been made to the 1967 high school building in the nearly four decades since. The school remains at this location on Burrage Road.
