US 6 is a cross-state route that connects Council Bluffs and Davenport by way of Des Moines and Iowa City. The route parallels I-80 for most of its length; however, nearly one-third of the route overlaps the Interstate Highway. While the route is away from I-80, US 6 is a two-lane highway with a rural speed limit of 55 miles per hour (90 km/h).

Iowa Highway 965 (Iowa 965) is a very short state highway in Coralville, Iowa that connects U.S. Highway 6 (US 6) to Interstate 80 (I-80) as there is no direct access between the two routes. Prior to 2003, Iowa 965 was a much longer route, extending to Cedar Rapids along the former alignment of US 218 (which now follows the parallel I-380 ).
Iowa Highway 415 was designated in 1959, first appearing on state maps in 1960, as a spur route from Des Moines to Polk City. It was created from an abandoned segment of Iowa Highway 60, which had been relocated to the west. [2] In the early 1980s, it was extended north from Polk City to 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Madrid, on Iowa Highway 17. [5]

Iowa Highway 224 (Iowa 224) is a state highway in central Iowa. It begins at Iowa 224 eight miles (13 km) north of Kellogg and ends 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Kellogg at exit 173 along Interstate 80 (I-80). It intersects U.S. Highway 6 (US 6) near Kellogg. The highway, in conjunction with Iowa 14, is the most direct route from I-80 to Marshalltown.
