"Relax" is the debut single by English new wave band Frankie Goes to Hollywood, released in the United Kingdom by ZTT Records in 1983. The hit version, produced by Trevor Horn and featuring the band along with other musicians, entered the UK Top 75 singles chart in November 1983 but did not crack the Top 40 until early January 1984.
"Relax" (New York mix) is the third 12" mix, which was originally released as the "Sex Mix" (as, confusingly, were the first two). It features four minutes of instrumental loops and textures before cutting to the standard vocal mix. The Ollie J and Jam & Spoon mixes were first released on the 1993 reissue of "Relax".
The cover art was conceived by ZTT owner Paul Morley and illustrated by graphic artist Lo Cole.The front cover featured an illustration of the Frankie Goes to Hollywood band members; on the back of the album was an illustration of a large animal orgy; and the inner gatefold artwork was an image of a procession of animals entering the head of a very large phallus.
The video, which was shot in a gay nightclub, was banned by the BBC and MTV. After an extremely slow climb, including one week where the song actually went down the chart, Relax eventually topped the UK Singles Chart for five weeks, and it still stands today as one of the best-selling UK singles ever.
The music video for "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" was directed by Bernard Rose. It features the group stealing a car whilst Holly is flying in a helicopter chasing them, going to a carnival and encountering all manner of deceptively "pleasureable" activities. The audio soundtrack of the video was included as part of the cassette single.

The film is to be written and directed by Bernard Rose, who directed the original music videos for the band's songs "Relax" (1983) and "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" (1985). From September 2024 to July 2025 the Museum of Liverpool is hosting an exhibition called The Holly Johnson Story. It focusses on Johnson and HIV/AIDs in the city of Liverpool.
