Frances Warde was born in 1810 at Belbrook House, in Abbeyleix, County Laois, Ireland, the youngest of six children of William and Mary (Maher) Warde.After the deaths of her parents, she was entrusted to the care of a maternal grand-aunt who undertook the formation of her religious character according to the method of Fenelon.

A small group of Mercy Sisters arrived in Chicago in 1846, led by Frances Warde, Catherine McAuley's closest friend. Within weeks, they opened a "select school" that became St. Francis Xavier Academy for Females, the first school chartered in the city of Chicago. The course of study covered primary, secondary and collegiate levels.
Warde was born in Christ Church, Barbados. [1] His mother was Rosetta Irene Ward. [2] He attended St. Christopher's Primary School and Harrison College. [3] During school, Warde was involved with athletics. [3] He converted his father's carpentry shop into a chemistry laboratory, where he built rockets with his friends from high school. [3]
