The camps were summer homes for the wealthy, sites for more or less lavish entertainment, with some featuring bowling alleys or movie theatres.

The interior included a puncheon-log floor and a loft, and a "tater hole" (a kind of small root cellar) near the fireplace. The front and back walls both have doors, although the cabin has no windows.
