Diego Miruelo, was an explorer and pilot who first landed on Florida's east coast in the early 1500s, naming it Bimini. He also explored Florida's west coast in 1516. He may have been the first European to sail first into Tampa Bay and then into Pensacola Bay, where he obtained some gold from the people he encountered there.
