Elk Knob State Park is a 4,423-acre (17.90 km 2) [2] North Carolina state park in Watauga County, North Carolina, in the United States. Opened in 2003, it is one of North Carolina's newest state parks.
Elk Knob is a mountain in the North Carolina High Country, north of the community of Meat Camp. Its elevation reaches 5,538 feet (1,688 m). The mountain is the headwaters of the North Fork New River and feeder creeks to the South Fork New River (via Meat Camp Creek [3]). The mountain is home to Elk Knob State Park.
The park was named after L. D. Frutchey, who donated the core property to the state, and it was later renamed "Town Creek State Park".
