The current building was built in 1959, and used as a junior high school. The facility was expanded in 1966, and again in 1992 to its current iteration. Formerly, the high school was located in the heart of the business district on 21st Street. [2] That building is now occupied by the Nitro Community Center and owned by Kings Way Christian Church.

The High School offers some AP classes and according to US news, the High School has an 80% graduation rate for the 2014-2015 school year. Total enrollment in the 2014-2015 school year was 1033 and 59 teachers taught at the school.

South Charleston is a city in Kanawha County, West Virginia, United States. It is located to the west of the state capital of Charleston. The population was 13,639 at the 2020 census. [2] It was established in 1906, but not incorporated until 1917. [4] The Criel Mound built by the Adena culture is adjacent to the city's downtown business district.
The school opened in 1999 as a result of the consolidation of DuPont High School (AAA) and East Bank High School (AA). Students from both of those former high schools, and from the Cedar Grove and Montgomery areas, attend the school. The school's attendance district runs from the Kanawha-Fayette county line to the Charleston city limits.

July 24, 1990 Garnet High School , also known as Garnet Career Center and Garnet Adult Education Center , is a historic African-American high school in Charleston , West Virginia . The school was established when "twelve African-American students in Kanawha County passed an entrance examination for high school level course work."
