The Diocese of Tucson (Latin: Dioecesis Tucsonensis – Spanish: Diócesis de Tucson) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory – or diocese – of the Roman Catholic Church in southern Arizona in the United States. It is a suffragan diocese of the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Santa Fe.

Kicanas was named coadjutor bishop of Tucson on October 30, 2001 and became bishop after the resignation of Bishop Manuel Moreno on March 7, 2003. [ 4 ] [ 1 ] On November 13, 2007, Kicanas was elected vice-president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), receiving 22 more votes than Archbishop Timothy Dolan .
To celebrate its completion, a re-dedication mass was led by the Bishop of Tucson, Gerald Kicanas, on February 12, 2011. Hundreds from the faithful Catholic community turned out for this special day. The total cost for all renovations was over US$1 million, donated by members of the diocese. [4]

On June 21, 1923, Gercke was appointed the third bishop of the Diocese of Tucson by Pope Pius XI. [3] He received his episcopal consecration on November 6, 1923, from Cardinal Dennis Dougherty , with Bishops John MacGinley and James Paul McCloskey serving as co-consecrators .

The church was re-opened in 1859 when the Santa Fe Diocese added the mission to its jurisdiction. It ordered repairs paid for with diocesan money, and assigned a priest to serve the community. In 1868 the Diocese of Tucson was established. It provided for regular services to be held again at the church.
