This guide is for the Browning A5 16 gauge only. Browning 12ga numbers began with the number 1 in 1903. The 16ga number 1 began in 1909. The two sets of numbers are different. A common mistake I have seen in many, many, gun shops and online sites is to assign the 12ga serial number date to a 16ga. I compiled this quick reference serial number ...

I took it out to shoot some clays with some friends and was only able to load one round. This is an American Browning made by Remington. Just because it’s a round knob doesn’t mean it’s a Belgium. There are a few ways to tell that’s it’s an American Browning. 1. Serial number is on the side of the receiver. 2. Receiver has a bead blasted look on the top. 3. The engraving pattern.
As was mentioned above, there's rarely a reason to totally disassemble an auto-5. It's easy to take the stock off to get to the return spring, and trigger assembly out, and barrel off, and recoil spring assembly. You just need a good set of screwdrivers to keep from buggering up the screw heads.
The short taper tube has somewhere around 1-1/2 in. of length, the long taper about 2-3/4 inches of length. The problem with DS choke tubes is that they are horribly mis-marked. Nevertheless, the A5 is Browning's version of the Bruno Civolani action, now often referred to as the “Benelli action.”.

I gather that this is supposed to control shell release from tubular magazine, but how exactly is it supposed to function?
