Walton died in 1906, passing the farmstead to his daughter Alice Walton Howard. She sold the Torrey farm to real estate speculator William Hendrie in 1916, who used it as a weekend retreat. Rose Terrace was a private home located at 12 Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. Built in 1934 by Anna Dodge, widow of automobile pioneer Horace E. Dodge, it was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1971 [2] and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. [1] Despite this, the house was demolished in 1976.
The younger John maintained ownership of both John T. Woodhouse & Company and of this house until his death on December 10, 1967, in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. At this point, the house was put up for sale. The house was purchased in 1974 by Drs. E. G. and Aspasia Metropoulos, who undertook a substantial renovation of the property. [3]
