Roswell is a member of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) and Region 4-AAAAAAA for athletic competition, as of the 2016–2017 academic year. [6] The school's mascot is the Hornet, and the school colors are green, white and black. Roswell offers 16 different sports, comprising 23 varsity level teams.
Up until the 1950s, ARC was for white males only. The 1951–1957 Richmond Academy boys' baseball team was ranked as one of the top 10 Georgia state sports dynasties. [4] It has teams in many sports. During the 1950s the school became coeducational, admitting female students. In 1964, the school began to admit minorities and became desegregated.
The school was named for Carl J. Harrison, a member of the Cobb County Board of Education, a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, elected in 1975, and later a Senator in the Georgia State Senate, [2] elected in 1983.
