The International Conference on Nitride Semiconductors (ICNS) is a major academic conference and exhibition in the field of group III nitride research. It has been held biennially since 1995. Since the second conference in 1997, hosting of the event has rotated between the Asian, European and North American continents.
From 2023 to 2024, Lina Khan, the chairwoman of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, was chosen to serve as the ICN's vice chair, succeeding to Margarida Matos Rosa, President of the Autoridade da Concorrência (Portugal). Matos Rosa was Vice-Chair of the ICN for Economic Growth and Recovery from 2022 to 2023 [4].
The initial mission was “to provide an interdisciplinary forum for scientists working in new and rapidly emerging areas of basic and applied biological research” and California was selected to act as a counterweight to the number of related conferences on the eastern United States. Ties were severed with ICN in 1981 and UCLA in 1990. [3]
