Skagway is known as a very windy place. In the summer the wind generally blows from the south and can be quite strong and gusty. In the winter the wind turns around and blows from the north. The airport is situated in a north–south direction and against the west side of the valley next to the Skagway River.

The Sawtooth Range is a small mountain range in southeastern Alaska, United States, located just southwest of Warm Pass and on the north side of the East Fork of the Skagway River. It has an area of 97 km 2 and is a subrange of the Boundary Ranges which in turn form part of the Coast Mountains .
