In search of Zoro, the Straw Hats encounter the young priestess Maya. Luffy and Usopp becomes lost and meet Saga, while Saga's men attack Maya's village. Zoro, alongside them, takes three purple orbs from Maya, which none of Saga's men can touch. Luffy fights Saga, but during the encounter falls off a high cliff, causing Usopp to jump after him.

The plan backfires, as Butler gets hold of the horns, quickly stuffs them down, and transforms into a large, horned, gorilla-like animal. With that he appears to be winning, until the island's animals and Luffy enter the fight. Luffy defeats Butler and breaks his horns, thus canceling his transformation, and sends him flying.

Luffy attempt to fight back using Armament Haki, but his punches go right though him, much to Luffy's confusion, as Trebol question Luffy's assumption of his Devil Fruit being a Logia. Law tells Luffy that fighting Trebol is futile, while revealing Trebol's slime is in fact mucus, before he begins to insult Trebol and the other executives.
Luffy reels him in, but when grabbing Zephyr's prosthetic arm (a weapon made with sea prism stone known as the battle smasher), Luffy loses all his strength. Chopper attends to Zephyr's wounds. Zephyr comes too and, after learning that he is the presence of pirates, fights Luffy, Roronoa Zoro and Sanji .
When Zoro is about to take on Vivi's assailants, Luffy appears. Oblivious to the townsfolk's occupation as bounty hunters, he wants to fight Zoro for cutting them all up. Luffy succeeds by pulling out only the legs, making everyone think that he killed the man. However, the legs are alive, and they run away trying to look for a Warlord.
