In statistics, multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) is a form of regression analysis introduced by Jerome H. Friedman in 1991. [1] It is a non-parametric regression technique and can be seen as an extension of linear models that automatically models nonlinearities and interactions between variables.
A first attempt at a Mars general circulation model was created by Leovy and Mintz who used an Earth model and adapted it to Martian conditions. This preliminary model had the capability to predict atmospheric condensation of carbon dioxide and the presence of transient baroclinic waves in the winter mod-latitudes. [ 4 ]
The model indicates that these undulating Martian shorelines can be explained by the movement of Mars's rotation axis. Because centrifugal force causes spinning objects and large rotating objects to bulge at their equator ( equatorial bulge ), the polar wander could have caused the shoreline elevation to shift in a similar way as observed.
Transverse aeolian ridges (TARs) are visually bright features commonly found in topographic depressions on Mars. [1] [2] [3] These small-scale and relict bedforms were first seen in narrow-angle images from the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) [2] [3] and were called “ridges” to preserve both dunes and ripples as formative mechanisms.
Born in The Hague, Mars Cramer was the son of biologist and Professor P. J. S. Cramer (1879–1952) [3] He received his PhD in Mathematics in 1961 at the University of Amsterdam with a thesis entitled "A Statistical Model of the Ownership of Major Consumer Durables with an Application to some Findings of the 1953 Oxford Savings Survey" under supervision of Pieter de Wolff [].
On that plate-smashing crossing, for example, this reporter – who was watching 40-foot waves from the observation deck – never got sick. Remember that however it feels, you’re safe. “There ...
SYDNEY (Reuters) -Australia's centre-left government said on Thursday it planned new rules that would charge big tech firms millions of dollars if they did not pay Australian media companies for ...
Colaprete et al. conducted simulations with the Mars General Circulation Model which show that the local climate around the Martian south pole may currently be in an unstable period. The simulated instability is rooted in the geography of the region, leading the authors to speculate that the sublimation of the polar ice is a local phenomenon ...
