Values are the ideals most important to you in life. These may include things like love, respect, or empathy. Values play a role in shaping your goals, priorities, and even your identity. They are influenced by personal beliefs, as well as by your family, friends, and society.
Values are a person's beliefs about what's important, or what matters most to them. They can be just about anything, such as family, hard work, success, or having a good time. Sometimes, people lose sight of their values—they live their life in a way that's incongruent with what they believe.
Values-guided therapy can help clients focus on the intrinsic meaning behind goals and stay on track when confronted by obstacles. In this article, we share 15 values worksheets to use with clients to help them identify, understand, and implement values-led decision-making and goal-driven behavior.
Values Clarification from Therapist Aid. This worksheet has a long checklist of predefined values and instructs the user to select and rank the ten most important values to them. This worksheet serves to not only help people identify their values, but also allows them to figure out the relative importance of each value.
The internet has several free resources to help you identify your core values. One excellent resource is from the website therapist aid.com which has several worksheets on values (see resources below). Create goals based on your values. After you identify your values you can begin to list activities in your life that support or promote your values.
