voodoo over 14 years ago. I want to know how NPM calculate bandwidth utilization I used this formula found in thwack. Bandwidth Utlization formula: Utilization: The averagepercentage of bandwidth utilization rates the report period. Bandwidth Utilization | (Total Bytes In + Total Bytes Out) x 8 x 100% |.
The fields being used are the bandwidth and traffic fields. The receive traffic is divided by the bandwidth to get the percent utilization. If the number is a decimal, then of it's .4 or below, it rounds down. The receive and transmit bandwidth are pulled from the speed value that the device reports to NPM.
I would like to give an overview on how bandwidth usage is calculated. Most of the data stored in the NPM database is coming via an snmp get request for all the available OIDs for any particular device. So there is an OID for InBandwidth and OutBandwidth which is collected by the NPM while doing a polling to the core device via SNMP get. This ...
You more than likely have 2M as the bandwidth statement on the interface, or have that value 2M in Orion. Thus your RX at 125% and TX at 101%. In Orion boost your port speed on this connection up to 6M. Plain and simple ePVCs in MPLS do not work like frame-relay PVCs with Committed Information Rates. Bandwidth - Think of it like a highway.
How To Calculate Bandwidth Utilization Using SNMP If your Cisco Device has 20MB Interfaces and above, I usually recommend to enable 64 bit counters. For higher utilization interfaces such as 100MB and 1Gb Interfaces, it will take only a few minutes for the 32 bit counters to reach their maximum before the counter resets.
Marlon, Network Performance Monitor discovers the port speed (bandwidth) from the router or switch. If for some reason a 100MB switch interface is set to 1MB in the switch, then Network Performance Monitor will discover it as 1MB and calculate percent utilization base on that value.
I am not sure about SolarWinds but some monitoring tools will read the 'bandwidth' statement (vs interface speed) from the interface config and use that for reporting. If your WAN provider supports bursting you can configure to go over your configured amount and see higher than 100% usage for short periods of time.
At first I was going the same route you were doing trying to calculate the start stop timing of the alerts. I couldn't figure out a way to do it effectively so I went another route. In my alert I wrote to the event log the following every 30 minutes the circuit was over my 80% threshold. Circuit Exceeding 80% utilization.
Bandwidth Utilization Report. fletchj2 over 8 years ago. I am trying to run a report on all of my WAN interfaces that will show when bandwidth hits 80% of capacity. So, my T1 has bandwidth of 1.5Mbps, I'd like to be able to show that in the report and also when 80% of that is sent or received. We use NPM 12.
I'm trying to do a bandwidth utilization report of our Internet interfaces but would need to consider the business hours. I was able to do this for availability but would like to get the trend how our internet is utilized during business hours.
