The Horcones Massacre (Masacre Los Horcones) was a series of killings centered on the Los Horcones ranch in the department of Olancho, Honduras, in June 1975, in which up to 14 religious leaders, campesinos, and students were killed by the Honduran military.
The former president of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo, hails from the department, specifically from the city of Juticalpa. Also former president, now congressman, Manuel Zelaya Rosales is from the city of Catacamas, also from the department. Manuel Bonilla Chirinos was born in Juticalpa, Olancho, on 7 June 1849. [4] [5] His parents were Jorge Bonilla and María Dominga Chirinos. He was initially liberal and active in the Partido Liberal de Honduras [6] (PLH) and led the Manuelistas to form the right-wing Partido Nacional de Honduras [7] [8] (PNH).

The second of five children to Irene de Jesús Castro Reyes and Olga Doris Sarmiento Montoya, Castro attended primary and secondary school in Tegucigalpa at the San José del Carmen Institute and the María Auxiliadora Institute. In January 1976, Castro married Manuel Zelaya.
