In discussion of science fiction, a Big Dumb Object (BDO) is any mysterious object, usually of extraterrestrial or unknown origin and immense power, in a story which generates an intense sense of wonder by its mere existence. To a certain extent, the term deliberately deflates the intended grandeur of the mysterious object.
Shadowless Pagoda (Korean: 무영탑; Hanja: 無影塔; RR: Muyeongtap) is a 1957 South Korean film starring Choi Eun-hee (최은희) in the role of Guseul Agi (구슬아기), a free-spirited woman, and Kwak Geon (곽건) in the role of Asadal (아사달), the stonemason who created the Dabotap and Seokgatap pagodas of the Bulguksa temple.
The etymology of "Asadal" is uncertain. One hypothesis is that the word 아사달 is a compound composed of two elements, asa + dal; this hypothesis is primarily motivated by an assumption of equivalence between the Chinese phonetic transcription 阿斯達 Asīdá and the word 조선 Joseon (朝鮮, Cháoxiǎn or Cháoxiān, in Chinese), another name for Korea.
