Charles Hamilton Houston (September 3, 1895 – April 22, 1950) [1] was an American lawyer. He was the dean of Howard University Law School and NAACP first special counsel. A graduate of Amherst College and Harvard Law School, Houston played a significant role in dismantling Jim Crow laws, especially attacking segregation in schools and racial housing covenants.
The Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) is a voluntary association of national collegiate and post-graduate honor societies. It was established on December 30, 1925 by six organizations, including Alpha Omega Alpha, the Order of the Coif, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi, and Tau Beta Pi.
Williams was the 25th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. [1] As president, he was named one of the 100 most influential Black Americans by Ebony magazine. [2] Williams is also the principal founder of Akron-based Alpha Phi Alpha Education Foundation and the principal founder and first president of Alpha Phi Alpha Homes.
He was the first African American editor-in-chief of the school's law review and graduated first in his class of 100 students in 1962. Chambers also became the first African American to gain membership in the Order of the Golden Fleece, the University's highest honorary society. [2] In 1964, he earned his LL.M. from Columbia University Law School.

The executive board of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences voted to designate Alpha Phi Sigma as the National Criminal Justice Honor Society at a meeting on March 24, 1976. [3] Alpha Phi Sigma was admitted into the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) in 1981. [4] [2] By 2012, it had 425 active chapters and 102,175 members. [2]
