SS Delphic was an ocean liner of the White Star Line, built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast and completed on 15 May 1897. [1] She was assigned to the New Zealand route. She was a fairly slow ship primarily intended for transporting emigrants and goods to New Zealand.

Alexander Montgomery Carlisle, PC (8 July 1854 – 6 March 1926) brother-in-law to Viscount Pirrie, was one of the men involved with designing the Olympic-class ocean liners in the shipbuilding company Harland and Wolff. His main area of responsibility was the ships' safety systems such as the watertight compartments and lifeboats. [1]
HMS Havelock was laid down at the Harland and Wolff Ltd shipyard at Belfast on 12 December 1914. The ship was named General Grant in honour of the United States General Ulysses S Grant , however as the United States was still neutral, the ship was hurriedly renamed HMS M2 on 31 May 1915.
Henry Peirson Harland (1 September 1876 – 11 August 1945) was a unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Born in Uxbridge , Harland studied at Rugby School before being appointed as a director or Harland and Wolff , and of Short and Harland .
Work resumed after the war and she was launched on 11 November 1920. On 22 May 1922 Harland & Wolff completed her and delivered her to the International Navigation Company, which was an IMM subsidiary. [1] Her UK official number was 145933 and she was registered in Liverpool. [3]
Harland & Wolff's Belfast yard built two sister ships for IMM: Pittsburgh (later named Pennland), laid down in 1913 and launched in 1920, [7] and Doric, launched in 1922 and completed in 1923. [8] Doric differed from Regina and Pittsburgh by having twin screws and pure turbine propulsion.
