The Gaston Gazette is a daily newspaper based in Gastonia, North Carolina. The newspaper was owned by Freedom Communications until 2012, when Freedom sold its Florida and North Carolina papers to Halifax Media Group. In 2015, Halifax was acquired by New Media Investment Group, which was merged and became Gannett in 2019. [2] [3]
On March 25, 1915, Edwards became a licensed architect in the state of North Carolina, and was the first African American to hold this title. [5] From 1917 to 1929, Edwards served as the president of Kittrell College, a HBCU in Kittrell, North Carolina. [3] He moved to Durham, North Carolina in 1929. [5] Edwards died on October 5, 1943. [2]
Prior to the 2014 season, the Gastonia Grizzlies were named The Gaston Gazette "Person of the Year". Normally the award goes to an individual but the Grizzlies continued community impact helped earn them the honor. The Coastal Plain League congratulated the Grizzlies with the title of Organization of the Year in 2012.
